Fall style is all about mixing textures and one of my all-time favorites is leather. Every woman needs a black leather skirt in her wardrobe – whether a pencil, midi or mini in either real or faux leather – because this staple item is so simple to style (skirt here). It goes with everything from sheer tops to chunky knits. That said, when creating a look with leather as the base, the trick is to mix and match a variety of textures. The more tactility added, the better!
To begin, you could pair a leather pencil skirt with another fall essential – a ribbed, high-neck, cotton sweater (here) – and then add-on other textures like suede or calf hair with footwear and accessories. These extras help to avoid a flat look. You could go the extra mile by piling on a fur wrap scarf (here) and velvet blazer (here) or longline topcoat in a seasonal color (here). This ensemble could easily go from desk to dinner or even to a holiday party.
Below, you can see more of this outfit, as well as suggestions for top layers.
