The slip dress has quickly become one of my favorite wardrobe essentials for the fall. Here is why it is awesome: you literally just slip it on, which makes getting dressed effortless. It’s easily dressed up or down – plus, you can pile on the layers and still be comfortable.
With capsule wardrobe building always in mind (one that consists of a few pieces that are repeatedly mixed and matched to make new outfits), I tend to stick with solid colors when it comes to staple items like this dress (here). I added the floral embroidered bomber jacket (here) to this daytime look to give it a pop of color and print (embroidered florals are BIG this season). The light piece of outerwear serves as a stylish shield against city winds and the cooler weather ahead of us.
In the meantime, these sandals extend the “off duty” feel, but can be switched out for an ankle boot with a block heel as the season progresses (here, here, and here). For my night look, I let the shiny metallic color of the slip dress steal the scene and only added an ankle boot with a thin heel for a little dose of sultriness. The slip dress is date night perfection. As we get deeper into fall, you can expect to see more styling of these two wardrobe essentials. Until then, outfit details and a few additional selections of each staple item can be found below.
