Growing up as the daughter and granddaughter of veterans, I have always felt great respect for the military. Many brave men and women have given their valuable time and made selfless sacrifices to keep us and our country as safe as possible. Thus, the tradition of honoring those who fight for our freedom is one that I’ve always enjoyed participating in.
For me, the act of celebrating Memorial Day consists of spending time with loved ones, kicking-off the season of grilled eats, and some sort of outdoor summer activity. Classic childhood memories of Memorial Day consist of patriotic red, white and blue decorations that were strung around our outdoor picnic area by my aunt, as well as the assortment of all-American hotdogs, hamburgers, salads and dips that were laid out by my mother and grandmother. The holiday get together would typically end with a sunset boat ride out on the lake and a really great night of sleep.
This timeless style of celebration is what I draw upon now when selecting attire for this long holiday weekend. Therefore, I tend to stick with classics like a tank and relaxed-fit trousers. I currently love the fit and softness of the new T by Alexander Wang line, so these off-white trousers (here) were first in mind for this occasion. I paired them with a thin tank (here) so that my arms could soak up the much-needed rays of vitamin D. However, the boater hat (here) stylishly keeps the sun off my face. Adding to the nautical nod, I tied the tank in a knot on the side. Finally, for the pop of holiday color, a red handbag (here) was a must.
