Oh hey, 2019! After ushering in the new year with a
Want more marvelous news? If you felt a little timid about trying out some of the wild trends that dominated last year’s fashion, you’ve now got a chance to push that re-do button.
Sounds like you hit good fortune, right? Well then, go greet the new year with your sartorial wealth and maybe even weave in a couple of new statement-making threads from the list below for good measure.
Awhile back on Instagram, I had mentioned that snakeskin has slithered its way into our wardrobe. Well, as it turns out, the Slippery Pete slid all the way into 2019.
But, don’t think that this reptile is that cold-blooded. Snake prints haven’t cut out the whole animal kingdom. You can still keep your leopard, cheetah, and zebra garments.
This year, just slip in a touch of snakeskin here and there or go total savage-mode with a double down on prints, whichever makes you feel like your fiercest self.
Neon is going nowhere. This 90’s flashback has extended its stay and will be shining in all its glory during the height of the summer ahead.
But, you shouldn’t wait for the froze’ to be poured because theses brights have secret magical powers that can be used now during the winter months. Shhh…
While we wait for warmer seasons, you can brighten up these shorter daylight hours and pitch black nights (by this I mean, 4 pm EST) with the illumination from your favorite neon sweater. If anything, just consider a neon purchase the same as investing in a light therapy box for your SAD disorder and thank me later.
This “ugly shoe’ trend makes for a good conversation piece at the very least. By last year’s end, most of the fashion flock had already given the clunky footwear (also lovingly called, the “Dad Shoe”) a chance. Yet, polarizing opinions are still being spouted about the oversized sneaker… I’m curious to hear your thoughts in the comment section at the very end of this post.
I too have found myself on both ends of this conservation. You see, I first thought of them as weird — both to look at and then later when tromping around the city. But, at the end of the day, I’ll never be totally averse to a couple extra inches in height, especially when the elevation comes in a non-stiletto form.
BONUS: If at first, you had mixed feelings about the sock boot, then take the judgment easy on the UPCOMING TREND IN FOOTWEAR… the sock sneaker. So that you have time to warm up to this new style, I’ve included a few pairs in the below round-up.
The concept of color blocking really isn’t new or that challenging to master. However, in case you’re new to it, designers have gone ahead and taken all of the work out it for you.
This year, it’s easier than ever to block out the frigid winter temps in style with a modern, statement-making sweater update.
BONUS: After sweater weather is over and we can all return to functional living conditions (yes, I’m casting shade on winter, but I am from Florida so it’s totally justified, right?), you may start to see more dresses and denim in two-color paneling.
I’ve included a few options below for those who like to get ahead of the game.
I never thought that I would say this…. but, be it as it may, I must give a big thank you to Silicon Valley for making the hoodie mainstream.
Back when we lived in Palo Alto, my husband would call his (daily) hoodie and jeans look “valley chic,” which was a statement that would provoke an uncontrollable (and massive) eye roll from me.
I’d say that it’s still too soon, but our zip-front and pullover friends are undeniably convenient when layering up to hit the streets. Thus, I have given way to more casual fashion in my wardrobe.
In all honesty, I actually love streetwear but wasn’t always good at styling it. Though, after seeing designers layer hoodies – like under a statement coat or a structured blazer – I’m now hooked. Plus, I’m pretty pleased with the recent shift in designing for comfort.
I am NOT mad about the fashions from the decade of excess and over-the-top glamour sticking around. I mean, don’t ridiculously unnecessary (but, like, totally fun) puffy shoulders just make you happy?
There’s no dabbling in this trend though. When it comes to the 80s, the motto is: Go big or go home!
For another dose of realness, I thought that this style of
Nevertheless, western detailing refuses to be bucked off the
How so? Look for boots with 2019 updates, such as embellishments, embroidery, and… fringe.
BONUS: This spring, you’ll be seeing fringe swaying from your garments too (anyone else already calling for a fringe-dripped Coachella?).
Another one of those ‘no way, really?” moments happened to me during New York Fashion Week last September. As I sat watching biker shorts walk down the runway during several of the SS19 shows, I had to keep reminding myself to wipe the utter confusion off of my face.
After all, we know how this goes… I would never -> they’re actually not that bad guys -> omg, I’m wearing these on repeat now!
Am I right? I believe so, primarily because I recently gave them a go and now get the fuss. The cycling short is pretty dang comfortable (TIP: size up and choose
In short, I’m saying bring on the peddle pushers (and in all of the fresh colors, prints, and fabrics) this spring because I am ready! Are you?
If you’ve been following along, then you know that I love me a good head topper. Therefore, it’s probably not much of a surprise that I’m thrilled about the current headwear trend that’s sweeping Instagram.
We’re only a couple weeks into 2019 and the headband has quickly risen to the top of the blogger “must-have” accessories list. The question is: will it steal the spotlight from embellished hair clips? I guess, only time will tell…
While there are plenty of other fashion trends carrying over into our new year, these nine are those that I’m the most pumped for.
Stay tuned to find out what else is in store for this new year!
