The Nomad Restaurant at The Nomad Hotel
Cuisine: American-European
Location: 1170 Broadway (NoMad/Flatiron)
Ambiance: Elegant, European
Price: $$$$ out of $$$$$
Background: The Nomad Hotel, which is named after the district in which it is located and stands for ‘North of Madison Square Park,’ is a stunning property in the midst of a gentrifying neighborhood that can easily be overlooked. Still, the hotel’s dark, romantic interior allures those seeking an old-world atmosphere.
Inside the restaurant, the main seating area feels like a plush living room that sits under a glass-enclosed atrium (think Hôtel Costes in Paris), and off to its sides are several smaller nooks for intimate dining. Additionally, the hotel’s ground floor offers 2 bar areas, each great for innovative yet classically-focused cocktails before dinner. Note: the Library Bar/Lounge area is for hotel guests only.
Menu: Under the supervision of restaurateur Will Guidara and chef Daniel Humm from the Michelin three-star rated Eleven Madison Park, the NoMad Restaurant menu features refined American-European fare. While the whole-roasted chicken for two is their featured dish, plenty of options for vegetarians and those with dietary restrictions such as gluten, are also found on the menu.
I highly recommend trying these dishes: Tomato salad with summer greens and burrata, Hamachi marinated with plums, daikon and almonds, summer squash with Meredith feta, pistachios and cherries, lobster butter-poached with corn, peppers and arugula, and the suckling pig confit with smoked apricots, mustard greens and bacon marmalade. Note: As their wine list is extensive and their atmosphere cozy, it is worth speaking to the sommelier in order to choose the perfect bottle of wine for your experience.
Overall: At the NoMad Restaurant, the enchanting atmosphere sets the scene for the chef’s modern sensibility to delight. Each sophisticated dish is meticulously prepared and plated, while still coming across as down to earth. The thoughtfulness of its creators is felt throughout the full experience. Between the hotel’s panache, chef’s attention to detail, and the impeccable service, you cannot go wrong here.
