Sessanta at The SIXTY SoHo Hotel to Become a NYC Neighborhood Mainstay

Sessanta at The SIXTY SoHo Hotel, New York

Cuisine: Coastal Italian and Sicilian

Location: 60 Thompson Street (SoHo)

Ambiance: Casual Glam

Price: $$$$ out of $$$$$

Background: Known by swanky locals and trendy travelers for its bohemian-chic, downtown vibe, the SIXTY SoHo is the flagship property for the newly rebranded SIXTY Hotels collection (formerly Thompson Hotels), which has three boutique lodgings in New York City, one in Beverly Hills and one soon-to-open on Miami Beach (dubbed Nautilus, opens this winter).

Located in Lower Manhattan’s most fashionable district, the newly renovated SoHo hotel recently unveiled its latest offering, an Italian restaurant named Sessanta. The 100-seat space has a warm, old-world interior design, yet still feels very glamorous. There are an additional 30 seats outside on the patio, which make for good people watching during summer al fresco dining.

Menu: The Sessanta menu is the modern interpretation of coastal Italian and Sicilian cuisine by Chef Jordan Frosolone (from Momofuku and Hearth) and boats Sicilian-style street food starters, crudos, salads with grains, pastas, and more. Frosolone also serves up his own made in-house spirits, which are an array of cellos ranging from traditional limoncello and orangecello to nontraditional fennel, juniper, coffee and lavender. Not-to-be-missed items on the food menu include the Frito Misto (shrimp and seasonal vegetables), Polpette Di Maiale (sausage meatballs), Tuna Crudo, Braised Octopus, Sorghum Risotto Style (a grain salad), Tagghiarini (lamb ragu), Calabrian Spaghetti, Grilled Skirt Steak and Pork Chop.

Conclusion: At Sessanta, dishes are prepared with precision and brought to the table beautifully plated. And, while flavors are bold, they are not overwhelming. The service is exceptional and your needs will be met before even asking. The causal yet glamorous vibes make for a fun night out, which leads us to believe Sessanta will easily remain a neighborhood hotspot. Note: The hospitality group behind the concept is Mercer Street Hospitality, who also created neighborhood mainstays like Lure Fishbar and Burger & Barrel.
