The first day of New York Fashion Week can be a little overwhelming. Right away, NYFW show goers want to make their first impressions and set the tone for what’s to follow during the busy week. I myself can get a little swept up in putting your most stylish foot forward, however, I felt pretty confident in my style this year because I’m becoming more comfortable with taking risks. I was more concerned with the unpredictable weather and getting suck out in the rain in my finest.
Waking up to an overcast sky on the first day of NYFW means a quick adjustment in attire before heading out to the shows. Since this is not my first rodeo (see my day one look from last February), I had already put aside several lightweight trench coats and boots that could withstand a few sprinkles (like these sock boots).
Oversized jackets are going to big this fall, so I went with this special-edition trench by Pinko that I received at an event to launch their denim line. From there the military inspiration was furthered with this season’s hottest accessory: the beret. The leather trim gives it that extra edge and complimented the laced-up, black leather details found on my bag (also by Pinko).
Leather mini skirts are excellent for fall because you can style them many different ways based on the level of warmth you need to combat the coolness outside. I recently found this vegan leather mini skirt at Free People, which is also where I found this semi-sheer knit with statement sleeves.
Below, you can see more of this modern military look from outside of Skylight Clarkson Square during the first day of shows at New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer18.
Stay tuned for a glimpse of more of my street style, including a video recap of my top three outfits from the week…
