Pool Day Necessities

Pool Day Necessities

Summer is in full swing and so are the seasonal distractions. I feel it’s safe to say that what’s on everyone’s mind lately is having a little fun-in-the-sun (or a lot of it for those cool kids that make the trek from the city all the way out to Montauk every Friday).

For me, I’m a little lower key and found my thirst for being near the bright blue quenched at a friend’s chill share house in Water Mill (Sarah, my boo and photog, is the best for hosting me). With raspberry margaritas being muddled (I told you she’s the freaking best), I shimmied into my go-to swimwear of late – the classic one-piece swimsuit. I know that I’m thin (I have been my whole entire life) but that doesn’t mean that I have to feel comfortable in a bikini. Besides, you can’t feel like a Baywatch cast member in a triangle top and piece of dental floss.

Below, you can see my pool day essentials, which include a one-piece bathing suit, cover-up, straw hat, metallic sandals, reflective shades, and sunscreen for your face and body.

Well, it appears that I too have fallen for the kimono trend. However, I’ve opted to sport a pool-ready version. This white kimono cover-up, by French Connection, has the cutest tassel detailing and is great for wrapping yourself up when you want to conceal your BBQ food baby. I’m also a big fan of a metallic pop whenever possible, so these clear sunglasses with reflective lenses by Quay Australia paired with these silver sandals gave me that extra bit of modern edge that I was seeking.

While stocking up on your vitamin D, it’s important to protect yourself from all of the completely unfair side effects from getting too much sun (like premature aging). However, this is also an opportunity to soak in those sweet summer scents like coconut and in my case (big) apple. Luckily, I was gifted sunscreen by IPKN, a K-beauty brand that formulates products that suit the working city woman, and I have been patiently waiting to test it out. After finally putting it on while out catching rays, my skin felt more like I had on a hydrating lotion than sunscreen, which I loved since I can’t stand feeling sticky. However, the apple scent was a little weak and didn’t last very long, which is a shame because it was refreshing.

For my face, I was also able to test out Dermalogica’s latest moisturizer, which helps minimize skin-aging triggers and boasts an SPF of 50. The medium-weight cream, called Dynamic Skin Recovery, helps neutralize free radicals and was effective in keeping me from looking like Rudolph, as my nose typically turns bright red after only a few minutes of being out in the sun. I’ll be taking this one down with me to Miami next month during SWIMWEEK. Also, it’s not featured here in this picture, but I’ve also found the sweat-resistant Setting Powder with SPF 45 by Supergoop to be a nice shine repellent when worn over the moisturizer.

Finally, no pool day would be complete without a straw hat (this one is currently sold out so here are others from Nordstrom. Also, these are all below $50 at Asos).

Below, you can see other options for your pool day necessities. These can all be sourced from Nordstrom since their Anniversary Sale is starting on July 21. I don’t know about you, but I’m super pumped about the good shopping deals ahead of us!
