If you’ve been following along, then you already know how much I love the cold shoulder trend! Since I will typically pass on a low-cut shirt and opt for something that will yield fewer catcalls when out and about in the city, I was a bit limited on tops that were discrete, while still providing some sort of femininity. So when the big shoulder reveal came about early this year, I immediately jumped on the ‘free the shoulder’ movement. After bringing home several of these liberating tops from different designers, I found that the ones from Bailey 44 were my favorite. So, when I saw that they were taking the cold shoulder into winter, I was pumped to extend my protest over the right for shoulders to go bare.
As temperatures have continued to toy with us, I’ve also found that these sweaters are cut perfectly to be paired with another favorite winter essential: the fur vest. The chic garment is an investment piece that quickly pays for itself by providing that extra layer of warmth and every winter I like to add one more to my collection. This year I got lucky during the early Black Friday sales and found a super, soft gray fur vest from the Joie store in Brookfield Place (this location is less picked over and is excellent for finding small sizes). Thrilled about my steal, I used the savings to purchase a pair of FRAME jeans in the gray color palette (these were also on sale at the Theory store within the same shopping center, cha-ching!).
You can pick your own colors, but I do recommend testing out the cold shoulder sweater with fur vest compliment. You can toss a leather coat on over the layers when running around outside and then slip off the coat to reveal the liberated shoulder once indoors. Below, you can see styling options and more of this winter look.
