Mad About Military-Style

Mad About Military-Style

Every year, about this time, something happens to me. I seemingly go mad about military-style details. If you don’t believe me, check out my post from last year when I talked about using a military-style jacket as a layering piece, as well as a brand discovery that I had made while at Macy’s. Once again, it just so happens that recent holiday shopping has lured me back into their Herald Square store and that I again found another military-style blazer that I’m crazy about.

Over the years, I’ve found military-inspired outwear to be one of the best top layers for creating an outfit that commands attention. For example, this street-ready look becomes a head-turner once this red structured blazer with statement stitching and gold button cuffs by Free People is added. FYI: This blazer runs big. I’m wearing an extra-small and there’s plenty of room for a chunky knit to be worn under it.

Keeping with the military inspiration, I wore my favorite pair of ultra-high waisted jeans by J Brand. The skinny fit, coupled with the sailor-style button detailing, is super flattering and looks great when worn with a tucked blouse. This Bailey44 blouse has layers of ribbed ruffles and a high neckline, but my favorite part is the long sleeves with graceful, flounced cuffs. I like to let them show when wearing the blazer. I’ve worn this top with the bow tight around the neck, however, I prefer this sort of undone way of wearing the bow loosely.

Below, you can see more of this look, as well as additional styling options and other military-style jackets that I’m currently obsessing over.
