With the changing of seasons coming up, as well as New York Fashion Week, I’ve been scouring the web in search of special pieces to add to my fall wardrobe. Typically, after one of these thorough sleuthing sessions, I’ll pop into one of the uptown department stores to try on the select pieces that were unveiled. During my latest outing, there was one contemporary designer that I was continuously impressed by during my fitting room adventures. Every Derek Lam 10 Crosby piece that I had flagged for in-person inspecting ended up being extremely delightful. Each garment fit me well and the fabrics felt like they would make long days of running around the city feel like a calm walk in the park.
Derek Lam 10 Crosby, named after downtown headquarters, is said to be downtown-fashion inspired. However, I see the sleek tailoring of the majority of his pieces as having more of an uptown feel (see below selections). To me, these modern American designs are perfect for going from desk to dinner.
However, due to the occasional jump from pinstripe to paisley, a few of his pieces bode well for downtown styling. That said, I chose this dark floral print dress with a boho feel. At first, I paired the maxi with mixed media, ankle-strap Mary Janes, but then later decided I liked it better with one of my favorite footwear tricks – socks and sandals. Since the weather has been so wonky, this clever combo is great for cool mornings – you can ditch the socks when temps rise during the afternoons.
